Changes to Facebook Fan Pages

Wondering why your fan page reach is down?  It was a November surprise from our friends at Facebook!  Around the 14th they slipped something in on us…Pages feed.  This tab categorizes posts from pages that you have liked.  The bulk of these posts no longer appear in your feed.  Could this be why fan page reach is so dismally low?  Take a look at your feed with a critical eye.  How many page posts do you see that do not say sponsored at the top?  I have next to none.  What does this mean to YOUR fan page…. it may mean “pay to play” or be relegated to the pages tab.

Facebook still maintains that popular posts with a high number of likes and shares will be featured in the feed. The question begs, if no one can see you post… how can it be liked or shared?  It seems like the social media equivalent of the chicken or the egg.

It would appear that quality content matters less and less.  Paying for post reach matters more and more. This is very bad news for direct sales representative who are prohibited from using paid ad content in any form.  We may see companies relax this policy to help representatives survive in the new Facebook.
In the mean time, diversify your strategy to include Twitter, Google plus, blogging and other platforms.
