I LOVE color! Color swatches, paint samples, clothing, cosmetics, flowers… all things in living color. Color makes things feel alive! Color affects our emotions and can evoke powerful memories. We just “feel” good in certain colors. I love color so much, I basically got a degree in it… Bachelor of Comprehensive Design! I studied color theory, hue, temperature and tone. I learned how to blend them and create color palettes. I learned about the emotions color can illicit and which ones to use in different rooms or buildings depending on the feel you want to create or the story you want to tell.
It wasn’t until after graduating college that I discovered the real magic behind color. Not only can color set the mood, the right colors make you look younger and more attractive. The right wardrobe and palette can make you thinner, taller and more pulled together. I was absolutely obsessed and still am to this day. Color is a cornerstone of personal brand. That is more important now than ever.
What are these, magical “right colors”? Well, it depends on your unique color balance. It’s all in your DNA. All of those dominate and recessive traits we studied in school make up your unique color palette. DNA determines your eye color, your hair color and your skin tone. It even determines how your hair will grey as you age. We call these color palettes “seasons”. Once you have been accurately diagnosed, your season never really changes. Your seasonal palette can be used to pick clothing colors and cosmetics colors for maximum WOW!
Not only will your “best” colors make you look younger, more attractive and better proportioned; they will help you POP in pictures and on camera. Never has that been more important than in this age of digital media. If you want more clicks and more views, color can make the difference. Let’s look at the difference on one the world’s most beautiful women, Angelina Jolie.

Here is Angelina in 3 different color schemes. In black, her skin looks clear and radiant. The black color is a nice balance with her strong natural coloring and features. The berry lip and grey eye shadow is also in perfect balance. There is an energy that captivates you. That is good news if you are trying to stop the scroll on social or make an entrance into a party.
In the second photo, the mustard top muddies Angelina’s beautiful complexion and the lip colors seems out of place. The clothing color is all wrong. The lip color might be right but the mustard top skews the lip color leaving the viewer confused. It looks like a chaotic color mess and her beauty is lost somewhere in between.
In the third picture she is wearing a tomato red. It is better than the mustard but it seems to scream off of her and overwhelm her. It almost looks as if she is shrinking back from the dress. That warm red brings out a sallowness to her skin as well. Her natural vibrancy is dimmed. There is definitely a better red for this stunning woman.
The clothes may make the man, but the color makes the woman. It is hard to even believe that this is the same woman. I could go on and on with these celebrity examples. I probably will do a few more because it is addictive… so stay tuned. In the meantime if you want to know about YOUR best colors click here.
