There’s a reason fall feels like such a natural season for reflection.
All around us, nature is letting go. The trees don’t fight to hold onto every leaf. They release what has served its purpose and make room for what comes next.
Maybe there’s a lesson in that for us.
We tend to think growth means adding something. A new goal. A new strategy. A new habit. A new plan.
But sometimes growth starts with subtraction.
Sometimes we need to let go of the old narrative we keep repeating about ourselves. The limiting belief that quietly influences our decisions. The unhealthy pattern we know isn’t working. The expectation we’re still trying to live up to even though it no longer fits.
And one of the sneakiest?
“I should be further along by now.”
That little sentence can steal an enormous amount of energy.
What Are You Still Carrying?
As a coach, I’ve learned that what keeps us stuck isn’t always a lack of knowledge.
Sometimes we know exactly what we should be doing.
The harder part is recognizing what we’re carrying that is making it difficult to move forward.
Maybe you’re holding onto a business strategy that used to work but doesn’t anymore.
Maybe you’re saying yes to things out of obligation instead of intention.
Maybe perfectionism keeps you from taking action.
Maybe you’ve become so accustomed to a particular way of thinking or working that you haven’t stopped to ask whether it still serves you.
And sometimes we’re simply carrying an old version of ourselves into a season that requires something different from us.
Letting Go Isn’t Quitting
I love this distinction.
Letting go isn’t giving up.
It’s clearing.
It’s deciding what deserves your time, energy and attention now.
It’s making room for a new idea. A healthier habit. A different direction. A bigger goal. A better way of doing things.
You don’t have to carry everything with you just because you’ve carried it this far.
So this week at DSI, that’s our focus: letting go.
Take a little time and ask yourself:
What am I carrying that no longer serves me?
What belief, habit, expectation or story is taking up space I could use for something better?
And most importantly…
What might become possible if I finally let it go?
Sometimes We Need Help Seeing It
It’s hard to see the picture clearly when you’re standing inside the frame.
That’s one of the reasons coaching can be so powerful. A good coaching conversation creates space to step outside the noise, look honestly at where you are and identify what may be standing between you and where you want to go.
This fall, I’m opening a limited number of complimentary Discovery Sessions.
We’ll talk about where you are, where you want to go and what may need to change to help you get there.
Because sometimes your next season doesn’t begin by doing more.
It begins by making room. Let’s chat!
