The more coaching I do (primarily with women) the more a core group of problematic behaviors and beliefs emerge. These are habits and tendencies that hold us back both professionally and personally. As we near 2014, it might be a great time to think about the habits in our lives that need to change for our lives to change. You may decide that some of these need to make your resolutions list!
1. Focusing on the “Brown” in Life
Whatever we focus on grows. Too often we choose to focus on what is wrong over what is right.
2. Holding on to toxic relationships.
Sometimes we maintain relationships because of the length of the relationship. Even when that relationship is harmful to us.
3. Saying yes when we should say no.
Women often struggle with “No” guilt. As a result, we say yes to everyone and everything. The result for us is exhaustion and mediocrity.
4. Wanting everyone to like us.
As women, we often struggle with self validation so we turn to external validation for what we need. The gauge of our worth becomes the number of people who do not approve, dislike or disagree with us. The higher that number, the lower our worth. As we can not {EVER} please all of the people all of the time, this process leads to low self esteem and feelings of failure.
3. Super woman syndrome
We have an image of perfection and we truly believe that we can do it all, be it all and have it all. Perfect is an illusion and the pursuit of it robs our joy. Put down the cape and relax.
So how do we change the patterns? We will be exploring this topic more in depth during our January Jump Start Series. Join us and make 2014 your best year YET!
